Our new business was born when we asked ourselves the question: “How can we bring the same wholesomeness we experienced, so unruffled and intimately close to nature, to the city? As farmers we had the dream to market wholesome livestock products fresh from the farm, directly to the consumer. At the time though, it was logistically not practical. Now our dream is a reality. Now we are able to exercise the knowledge and experience gained from two contrasting worlds to mutually benefit the farmer as well as the consumer.
As we first-hand experienced, some of the country's best quality lamb are from the Free State. We believed it would be a pity not to share this with our family and friends in Gauteng.
Thus, the idea of Lamb in a Box came to life. Our ultimate goal was to provide a personalised and convenient service of supplying fresh, excellent quality products that are as free range, grass fed, hormone free, and free of routine antibiotics as possible.
It is with gratitude that we can say our goal has become a reality, and we are constantly researching ways to keep improving to the benefit of our consumers. Equally important to us were the ethical responsibility that the livestock are raised and slaughtered humanely. In our years as farmers we were closely involved in organisations such as the Red Meat Producers Organisation where we gained valuable insight into the ethical farming of livestock, which resonated with our life philosophy. This insight enabled us to hand-pick suppliers who are ethical and trustworthy, ensuring peace of mind for our consumer.
After starting out with our flagship product, the demand from our customers grew rapidly, prompting us to introduce a wider variety of products. To date we have expanded our range to include not only lamb, but chicken and beef as well. This is how our umbrella company Meat the Farmer was born, under which we proudly market our Lamb in a Box, Chicken in a Box and Beef in a Box, trusting we add lots of farm wholesomeness and natural flavour to your daily menu!
